The Yellow Villa
Quinta dos Pinheiros offers a peaceful family holiday on one of the few remaining unspoilt
stretches of Algarve coastline. There are two family villas for rent located in 25 acres of - now
unworked - farmland. Neither villa is within sight of the other. The property has been in private family ownership since the villas were built in the early 1970's.
The property - 40 minutes from Faro airport - runs along the shoreline of one of the tidal lagoons for which the Rio de Formosa is noted and at low tide it is relatively simple to cross to the sea beach on the other side of the sand bar, which can be seen in distance in the picture above. The sea beach is a 5km stretch of white sand, at worst sparsely occupied by locals who travel there by boat, at best deserted, except for fishermen searching for shell fish.

The villa has three double bedrooms, two of which can be used as
family rooms, comfortably accommodates 6 adults and two children,
or additional children who can share rooms, dependent on their
ages. The villa has large terraces, including a roof terrace
and a swimming pool with views of the lagoon. |
Although the property enjoys total privacy and the nearest villa
development is 5 km away, shopping facilities are within easy reach
in the nearest town, Luz de Tavira, two kilometres away where there
is a small supermarket.
A car is, however, essential to enjoy
a holiday at Quinta dos Pinheiros.
The Blue Villa
Rio de Formosa is a haven for resident and migrating birds. Located
in a little watched stretch of southern European coastline, the
area is becoming increasingly popular with bird watchers.
The nearest sizeable town is Tavira - 15 kilometres to the East
- which preserves its Romanesque style despite increasing commercial
activities. It has a daily market for fish, fruit and vegetables,
traditional in style but recently located in modern premises. There
are many excellent, inexpensive restaurants here and in other nearby
villages, such as Santa Lucia, 5 kilometres along the coast.
There is a Henry Cotton designed golf course a few minutes from
Tavira and the more familiar Western Algarve courses are now accessible
within 45 minutes by means of the IP 1 motorway.
| The villa, which is surrounded by the native
pines which give the property its name, has three double
bedrooms and one single, easily capable of accommodating 7
adults. Additional children can be accommodated in extra
beds, provided by prior arrangement. The swimming pool is
set in a terrace to the right of the villa. |
